Standard Radio Saturday

Well, the time of year being what it is, the radio station is closed for the week, so for this saturday's Standard radio show we have something a little different.

A few months ago, I packed up my belongings, gave away the rest, and left Ireland with the missus and the madra for South East Asia. While going through my stuff, I found various neglected dusty cassettes from the 80s, 90s and beyond, one of which I gave to Mek to transfer into a digital format for nostalgia's sake, which will be broadcast tonight on Dublin's FM 106.4.

It's an old mix I did back in 95 (or thereabouts), made up of old school electro and house records I loved and bought in the 80s, along with some hardcore/early jungle I had begun buying by the time this mix was done.

In other words, expect plenty of skipping, dodgy mixes, but great music - and forgive the odd bit of blending from old Streetsounds Electro albums (forgive me Herbie) - inevitable given my collection back in them days.

The show kicks off at 9 PM (GMT), finishing up around 10.30.

We're also live on the web if you're outside our FM reach.

If youre feeling the show, feel free to leave a shout here.

Thanks to the listeners, we hope 2012 is good to ya.

Last Night 17/12/2011

Here's last nights Standard Radio broadcast, with DJ Bob on selection and live in the mix, and Major Grave on security detail/moral support.

Kicking off with some Broken Beat and Chicago classics, then diving headlong into Garage, this week's show finally winds up in some proper old Grime favourites - for the heads who remember and all that.

Lock in again next saturday night, when I'll be resurrecting an unheard old school mix for a long distance Santa special. Hold tight the mid-life crisis crew.

Last Night 10/12/2011

A big thanks to our guests this week, as Bob took a well deserved break, and I spent my birthday stuffing my face elsewhere on the globe, and staring at a full lunar eclipse.

With Major Grave on the controls, Joey and Alex of the Pryme Crew took to the 1210's and CDJ's to give us an hour and a half of deep House, Funky and other genetic twistings of the sound. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, and we're sure to have the lads back in the future.

For now, you can grab the download below if you missed it - Standard operations will be in effect again next week at the same time and place.

Okay, so it's a day or two late but here's saturday's radio show - kicking off with DJ Bob, bringing a fine set of UKG, Funky House, and Grime, peppered with various nameless mutants of the UK continuum.

Around the 60 minute mark he's joined by the third member of the unholy trinity that is The Standard Crew, otherwise known as Major Grave; it's a thirty minute mix of his own Grime instrumentals with quite a few new and exclusive bits in there, so hold tight for that.

You can score some Major Grave bits here if you're feeling it.

We'll be back again next saturday, same time and place. A big smooch out to the listeners and supporters.

Last Night 08/10/2011

That's all, folks.

Thanks again all who tuned in, downloaded, or had a sneaky listen over the last few years.

It's my final show for a while as I'm getting my arse (and the rest) out of Ireland along with my missus, and the mutt. The other side of the world has given us a bell and we've decided to take it up on its offer.

As soon as I get myself somewhat settled, and my equipment makes it's way across a couple of seas and the odd ocean, I'll be back via the power of the web.

Bob and Major Grave will be keeping the flag flying for Standard Radio in my (physical) absence, keeping what must be Dublin's only remaining show on FM radio that keeps the continuum continuous, in continuity.
It's been fun. Catch yiz later.

Nitey nite.

Last Night 24/09/2011

Much fun down at the radio station last night, despite the studio amlplifiers cutting out during the odd mix and blend - otherwise a fairly hyped show this week, mostly on the Grime / 8 Bar side of our record collections: 45 minutes from me followed by 45 from Bob.

We're back next week with more from the crates.

Last Night 17/09/2011

Here's last night's triple decker, with our special guest DJ Sectionfive kicking things off, followed by some from me, and then some from Bob.

Apparently there were some issues regarding the live stream, so apologies to all outside Dublin and our flimsy FM reach - you can catch up below for 90 minutes of UKG Vinyl favourites if you missed it.

Thanks again to all who sent shouts, we'll be back next week.

Technical-whatsits delayed delivery of last saturday's Standard Radio show, but here it is at last - just Bob this week with a fine selection of UKG, dubstep, Grime and whatnot. A bit of trouble with the needles at one point but otherwise business as usual.

We'll be back next week, or at least, I will - Bob is off emptying Soho's record shops of their contents.

DJ Mek - Plastic Attack August 2011

DJ Mek brings the old time magic (through the new school tech, mind) to The Plastic Attack last week on RTE 2XM. Catch the show, curated by our good friend DJ Laz-E every friday at 9PM.

Last Night 06/08/2011

As predicted, the first show of August involved waterproof clothing and many cups of tae, as myself and Bob settled in for ninety minutes of old and new records - we kept the tempo down this week to play some favourites which we can only lump together under the categorical umbrella of House musics' various bastard children. Or something like that. We're back in two weeks at the same time and place. Thanks to all who locked in.
