A London Somet'ing Dis ( 1993 )

Some better Friday evening viewing than you can expect from The Plank, 'A London Somet'ing Dis' is a great documentary from 1993 on Jungle. Im getting emotional watching it, the tunes are just so deep, or Im getting old. Before it grew a beard and started calling itself 'Intelligent'.
Glory days.
About time someone remixed 'The Helicopter Tune' if there's any takers...
Interesting too how nothing changes as regards the medias relationship with t'underground.

Poor Grooverider.
Anyway, you cant just leave it at that so here from 1991 is the tune that kicked it off. Don't Argue.

D.T.N.O.

North Londoner D.T.N.O. throwin a flow over the now classic 'Gully Brook Lane' riddim by Joker.

Johnny Oakley 'This Time'

A brooding new production from Dublin Stepper Johnny Oakley, with an industrial meets funky vibe to it. Does that make sense? Have a listen....and keep an eye out for Johnny's Live sets in Dublin over the summer. I'll keep an ear out.

Fuzzy Logik 'Leader' / 'What Goes Around'

Two tracks by up and coming Fuzzy Logik taken from shows by Pioneer and Supa D, adding to the confusion by welcoming listeners new to the sound by bigging up 'All The Funky House Divas'...

DJ Marcus Nasty on Déja Vu FM

If you are still more than a little confused by the current bandying about of genre names, you're probably having a little trouble with the term Funky ( at least, as it applies to certain tunes being made in and around London ), a term being used to describe tracks evolving out of the UKG/Grime/Dubstep branch of the continuum. It's still at that gloriously early period where there's room for any influence, where tracks from 'outside' the 'scene' can break through, and cross-pollination continues. No vinyl as yet though, soon no doubt....

To clear any confusion here's a segment of a recent set by DJ Marcus Nasty from his show on Deja Vu FM, along with Shantie MC.

Temple Bar Drunken Master

Thanks to DJ Mek. Check the 'air scratching' technique.

MaddAxxe 'Clash In Riddim'

Proprietor of MaddAxxe Versions, MC, Producer, Scary Eire member, DJ and all-round original B-Boy Rí Rá here on the sound clash with Worries Outernational. This came out as a limited 7" white label last year, so rare as hen's teeth. This is just a snip, so if you want to hear the full track click HERE.

Get Low 'Super Villain'

Steve(L) and Simon(R) of Get Low have taken the demo I threw up here a while back('The Tick') and re-rinsed it as 'Super Villain' a big dance smasher straight outta Gaillimh. They're currently working hard on the club night, various gigs, and getting their particular brand of dope on plastic (hopefully soon), so a busy summer ahead for the west crew.

Here's a snippet ;)

Solen - New Release on Alphabet Set

Heads up for the forethcoming release from Solen, due out at the end of April on the Alphabet Set label, and available in 10" Vinyl Format. I've already seen the lads live, and heard a very tasty dubplate at the good friday session. The energy and focus in their music is evident at their gigs, more of which I'm hoping for in the wake of this release.

This is a double A sider, the tracks are titled ' Lord ' & ' Block ', two slabs of heavy electroid textures with two stepping rhythms, grimey to a degree but with dubbed out melodies floating around in the mix. Here's an exclusive one minute snip of each track...

This release will be distributed in Ireland and the UK by zaudio, and in mainland Europe by Toolbox records. Mastered at Transition.

DJ I-Shen 'Dirt Screech'

Just got this one from my Manchester buddy DJ I-shen, part of the big bad and busy L.O.K.Z. crew. I'm really feeling this slab of minimalist bass pressure ;)

Check......
