Standard Radio Saturday

I think its fair to say that myself and Bob have been enjoying this week-on week-off way of doing the show lately, as it gives each of us time to pick a decent 90 minutes from our records and enter a mindset free from live radio trauma, just mixing tracks while someone else looks after the technicals. Plus we're lazy bastards at the best of times, and a rest does us the world of good.

With that in mind, this Saturday night both myself and Bob will be handing the reins over to the third member of the Standard Crew, Major Grave. He has a treat for the Dublin heads with a selection of his lost dubs from 07 and 08, most of which were only ever heard out at the various bass-heavy friday night sessions in the likes of the now defunct Traffic nightclub and The Cavern (see pic above). We send this one out especially to all the heads that used to frequent those dark dances in the basements.

Dublin listeners, lock on to 106.4 FM - otherwise you can check the Livestream.

The show starts at 9 PM, ends at 10.30. All times are GMT. You can reach the studio on Facebook, or shout @MajorGrave.

Major Grave - Ask Me

This one used to haunt the raves of Dublin a few years back before things went a little...odd. The track couldn't be finished and mixed because the original Ableton file was lost soon after it was started, but we'll send out what's left to the Original Dirty Collective.

Dollymixtures - Rainbow Drops Mix

Trawling soundcloud and twitter led us to find the mysterious Dollymixture series of mixes, and straight away we were hit by the quality of tracklist selections on there, always the first port of call. And so, we fired over a tweet and she fired over a mix especially for us. Check it below and don't forget to check the rest, plenty great stuff on there.

01 Lucy Love - I'm in Love with It (Yo Akim Reggae Mix)

It's Been A Long Time, We Shouldn't Have Left You, etc

© Fake Street

Hurray. (I think). It's a new year.

It's a month since the last Standard Radio, and I've missed it, massive pain in the arse and drain on the funds that it can be. Plus my ever-waning grasp on the Gaeilge escalated to a new level of Dubglish twaddle in the last year. Still, if it wasn't an Irish language station the show would soon descend into pure shite talk from the three of us over the occasional record, so small mercies.

Either way, we're looking forward to the first show of 2011 - we're going to carry on in much the same vein as in 2010; only one louder.

I can't do yearly round ups, they've been done better by those who are better at these things, and the internet has made you lazy with all this convenient linking so off you go now and find them yourself. Happy digging, there are some very good ones out there.

If you would like an idea of tunes we liked last year (that got a vinyl release, so it's a limited list of course) I reckon just check some of our old shows from the last year - we spent hard cash on them, and actions speak louder than words.

So if you like the stuff we like, or you're a long suffering regular, lock onto 106.4 FM this saturday night at 9 PM (GMT).

If you're outside Dublin, there's always the Livestream

You can text us on (086 6001064)
Or Facebook

Many thanks once again to our supporters, friends and listeners. A prosperous and happy new decade to you all.
